HKAAPA celebrates its 6th anniversary and
looks to the future with confidence


(15 February 2019 ─ Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (HKAAPA) is dedicated to connecting amusement parks and attractions in Hong Kong and across the region for the betterment of the local tourism industry. To mark the milestone of its 6th anniversary, the HKAAPA’s founding and board members, together with other members, celebrated at an anniversary luncheon held at AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) today, which was also kindly attended by Joe Wong Chi-cho, Commissioner for Tourism, as the officiating guest.

 

Following the opening of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the number of mainland Chinese visitors to Hong Kong continues to increase. To capitalise on these opportunities, many of Hong Kong’s amusement parks and attractions have launched exciting new offers to lure tourists from the Greater Bay Area, including packages that bundle admission with convenient new transportation, and joint-promotions in partnership with other industry stakeholders.

 

During the luncheon, Rosalind Siu, President of the HKAAPA, expressed her pleasure that the industry is well-prepared to make the most of upcoming opportunities. “Promoting Hong Kong’s tourism industry has always been a major task of the Association,” she explained. “Looking ahead, the Association will further capitalise on the opportunities brought by the region’s new transportation infrastructures. The HKAAPA is committed to working closely with all members to continually provide a better experience to visitors.” The HKAAPA currently has 29 members covering Hong Kong, Macao and the Greater Bay Area.

 

The Longines Masters of Hong Kong, which is currently being held at AWE, is an example of how high-profile international events help boost the local tourism industry. During today’s luncheon, a representative of AWE shared interesting facts and fascinating insights on the complex challenges involved in hosting this large-scale equestrian competition. HKAAPA members were also invited to watch the event’s opening match, The AsiaWorld-Expo Trophy. The Longines Masters of Hong Kong, which is the Series’ only stop in Asia, has been held at AWE for seven consecutive years. This major sports event not only promotes the development of Hong Kong’s tourism and MICE industries, but also enhances Hong Kong’s image as Asia’s leading city for spectacular entertainment experiences.

 

Enid Low, Chief Strategy Officer of AWE and Vice President of the HKAAPA, shared her confidence in the ongoing development of Hong Kong’s tourism and MICE industries, and offered her encouragement to the industries to continue striving for the highest standard in order to maintain Hong Kong’s competitiveness. “The industries’ healthy and sustainable development will greatly benefit Hong Kong’s overall economy,” she said. “AWE is in the process of transforming into a smart venue, using IoT technology to enhance the intelligent monitoring of venue facilities and optimise work processes. I believe that our commitment to innovation will ensure visitors enjoy an enhanced new experience when visiting the venue. Our integration with Hong Kong International Airport also creates synergies with Lantau’s future development and unleashes exciting new potential.”

 

To keep members abreast of the latest industry news and market trends, the HKAAPA organises a wide variety of events. In 2018, it offered members a number of forums and educational platforms including a seminar and networking event for the new High Speed Rail Link. The Association also actively promotes Hong Kong’s tourism industry in mainland China, such as by participating in the China (Guangzhou) International Tourism Industry Expo (CITIE).

 

Looking ahead, the HKAAPA will continue to take the lead in connecting industry elites and professionals. By increasing cooperation with industry leaders and driving the industry’s innovation and creativity, the HKAAPA will play a key role in presenting Hong Kong globally as a Tourism World City.
